Pre-plasticised vinyl resins are prepd. by (a) forming a mixt. of vinyl monomer(s), plasticiser and aq. reaction medium, (b) homogenising the mixt., esp. to practice size 0.5-15 mu (c) polymerising the homogenised mixt. in emulsion in presence of a catalyst, at below the vitrification temp. of the polymer and (d) recovering the pre-plasticised polymer. The term "plastimerisation" is used for such a process of polymerisation in presence of a plasticiser. Stable latices are obtd., irrespective of pH. Polymer does not become deposited on the walls of the polymsn. vessel. The plasticiser resists extn. and migration. Flame-proofing plasticisers can be used. the pre-plasticised polymers can be compounded with large amts. of further plasticiser, e.g. up to 150 pts. total plasticiser/100 pts. monomer(s). The polymers can be mixed easily with nitrile rubbers.
|
