The machine is suitable for labelling fruit or vegetables or other uneven objects. The drum containing the roll of labels is hand loaded. The labels pass over the guide roller (3) and over the end of an arm (5). The arm is pivoted at (8) and is able to rock in the directions (A), (B). The objects to be labelled (7) are supplied on a conveyor belt which feeds the objects in predetermined positions. When an object contacts the lever (5), the label on the end of the arm is peeled off and applied to the object by an applicator (6). The feed rate is controlled by the cogged wheel (9) and tension is taken up by the jockey wheels (3) and (10). The driving drum (11) disposes of the backing strip.
