1471785 Elastomer coated metal mesh path: spray coating EXPANDED METAL CO Ltd 15 April 1975 [25 April 1974] 18180/75 Headings B2E and B2L A metal mesh path 8, e.g. of steel or galvanised steel, which is capable of receiving a spray or projection rendering of material such as plaster or mortar is provided on its rear surface alone with a coating of an adhesive stuck directly to the metal mesh and forms a continuous or discontinuous elastic membrane 33 over the apertures 9 of the mesh. Suitable elastomers include natural rubber. butyl rubber, nitrile rubber and neoprene and they may be applied by spraying from solution. Metal mesh sheets are conveyed by carbon belt conveyors 14, 15 through spraying chamber 12 and drying chamber 13. Control box 18 is connected to containers 20 of neoprene solution and pipes 22 lead to distribution box 23. Solution is conveyed to spray heads 27, which are suspended from carriage 26 by pane 28, by flexible hoses 24. Neoprene may be recirculated from box 18 to the spray heads and back, solution discharged from the spray heads being made up by suction from one of containers 20. Carriage 26 can reciprocate across chamber 12 driven by endless chain 30 from electric motor 32 so as to spray the whole surface of sheet 8. Heated neoprene solution forms a coherent but discontinuous coating on strands 10 and across apertures 9. The coated sheet passes on to conveyor 15 and thence through drying chamber 18 where radiant heaters 35 drive off solvent. Entry and exit ends of chambers 12, 13 are closed by curtains 36 and solvent vapour is extracted by fans 37 and ducts 38. |
