Method for extruding alumina

A method for extruding alpha alumina monohydrate by admixing with the alumina from about 0.01 to about 1.1 equivalents per kilogram of Al2O3 of a monoprotic acid, from about 0.01 to about 2.7 equivalents per kilogram of Al2O3 of a polyprotic acid or salts thereof and an effective amount of water to form a mixture of uniform consistency and thereafter extruding said mixture and recovering alumina extrudates.
