The gripping device for fragile articles such as tumblers or glass articles, where the operator of the device has difficulty maintaining the correct pressure. A pair of jaws carried by members travel on an adjusting screw, where one member is fixed to the end of the screw and the other travels towards and away from the handle when the screw is rotated. Between the handle and the moving member is positioned a locking nut. By rotating the nut, the two jaws can be secured the correct distance apart to give the required pressure on the article.
