Bread-coated emergency food snack - prepd. by extrusion with various cores and fillings

Food prod., in the form of an emergency snack, consists of an external layer of bread, which may be of the whole-meal type, which is intimately bonded to the core; this consists of a sugared mass, such as chocolate, which is filled with highly flavoured fruit pulp. The prod. can be enriched with proteins, vitamins or trace elements to provide physiologically complete nutrition. The envelope of dough is prepd. by extrusion of the mass made in the usual way from wheat or tye. It may be extruded either separately or conjointly with the core; it is then cooked by the applicn. of heat or by mirro-waves. The external bread coating has a water content pref. 10%; this is achieved by double cooking or by drying after cooking. Cut to suitable lengths, the extruded prod. provides a useful snack for travellers, schools, etc. during absence from home; it acts as a satisfactory form of emergency nutrition.
