1420384 Valves SULZER BROS Ltd 14 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 12177/73 Heading F2V A hinged valve comprises a disc 1 pivotally mounted on an arm 11 and under the influence of a spring 13, the arm being connected to a transverse rod 16 outside the flow area of the fluid passage, rotation of the arm away from the valve seat 5 causing the disc to rotate to the position shown in Fig. 3 by virtue of a pair of fixed abutments 14, 27. The disc is actuated by a piston and cylinder arrangement 19 against the action of a loading spring 20. Rotation of the rod 16 changes the lever arm acting on it by spring 20 (Figs. 4a, 4b, not shown). The valve seat comprises a W-shaped sealing ring 5 whose rim (44) (Fig. 5, not shown) yields under high pressure to provide a firmer sealing rim (45).
