<p>Hydroxy-substd. thieno/3,2-c/- and -/2,3-c/pyridine derivs. of formulae (I) and (II) (where R is H or 1-6C alkyl), e.g. 7-hydroxy 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno 3,2-c pyridine, and their addition salts with mineral and organic acids, are new cpds. (I) and (II) have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and platelet aggregation inhibiting activity. (I) and (II) have low toxicity and are well tolerated. Details and results of tests in animals are given in the specification; thus, (I; R = H) (LD50 75 mg/kg i.v. in mice) in a dosage of 3 x 100 mg/kg p.o. gives 41% (1 hr.), 48% (3 hrs) and 53% (5 hrs) inhibition of rat paw carrageenin oedema. (I) and (II) are also useful as intermediates for other cpds., e.g. pharmaceuticals.</p> |
