Coaxial cable insulation with partially flexible insulation - as a self compensating seal for differential thermal expansion

In a coaxial cable with annular insulation between a core conductor and a tubular conductors, the insulation comprises a dense insulating matl. with a subsidiary zone of flexible matl. which can absorb any relative dimensional variation between the core and the tubular components, e.g. due to differential thermal expansion. Used esp. for cables for use in temps. between -20 and +80 degrees C. The flexible zone maintains a seal between the core insulation and the tubular conductor, preventing internal longitudinal penetration by moisture.
