Digital checking of diameters of band rolls - carried out during winding or unwinding using impulse generators

Installation and method for digital checking of the diameters of rolls of band material being wound or unrolled. The roll is fitted with an impulse generator which produces one impulse for each roll revolution. A further impulse generator runs synchronised with the material track on a control shaft with the number of impulses per revolution exactly corresponding to the diameter of the control shaft in mm. The impulses produced by one generator, are compared with those produced by the other impulse generator at each revolution and these impulses are evaluated by an electronic calculator so that the diameter of the roll can be measured for each revolution.
