<p>The combined accelerator/brake pedal (4) is pivotted about two orthogonal axes (2, 3) with one horizontal axis (2) used to secure the pedal to the vehicle bulkhead. Depressing the pedal about this axis operates on the brakes as in a conventional brake pedal. A second, vertical axis (3) is fitted a little way up the pedal shaft to enable the driver to twist the pedal to one side. A control arm (5) on the swivelled part of the pedal shaft is coupled to a cable drive (6) linked to the throttle control (8) of the engine. The brakes can be operated in any setting of the throttle so that a fast response can be achieved for emergency braking.</p> |
