1492098 Seaming non-metallic sheet material CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERK AG 24 Sept 1975 [30 Sept 1974] 39077/75 Heading B5K Two rubber sheets are joined together by placing an edge of one sheet upon an edge of the second sheet so that the sheets overlap, severing the sheets in their overlap region by a cut performed over the whole width of the sheets perpendicular to the surfaces of the sheets, removing the severed portion, coating the cut surfaces of the sheets with an adhesive and placing them together. The sheets are cover layer sections used in the manufacture of steel cable conveyer belts. The cutting step is formed by the shown device which comprises a replaceable cutting blade 6 received in a holder 2 displaceable by a motor 13 along spindle guides 3. The blade 6 acts against a plastics support base 4 on a rigid carrier 5. Cutting of overlapping edges of successive sheets is effected during a standstill period of a conveyer belt 8 of a feed device 7 which is raisable and lowerable relative to the holder 2 by a pressure medium cylinder 10. Sheet sections 12 are fed from a slightly braked roll 12a on a pedestal 11. A hold-down device 14 comprising two rails one on each side of the blade 6 is vertically reciprocable relative thereto by pressure medium cylinders 15.
