<p>Glass fibre coating sizing compsn. consists of (I) a natural or synthetic rubber lates, (II) an adhesive selected from zinc salts and mixts. of zinc salts and a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, and (III) sufficient ammonia to complex the zinc salt. The coated glass fibres are used for reinforcing elastomer comsn. The coated fibres bond firmly to the elastomer. The compsn. is easy to apply to the fibres in a single stage, and is relatively cheap. The compsn. contains a coupling agent selected from silanes with amino, amido, epoxy, chloropropyl or ureido groups. pref. gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The latex contains a styrene-butadiene-vinylpyridine latex. The zinc salt is the sulphate, phosphate, nitrate or chloride.</p> |
