A vinyl halide polymer is treated to remove vinyl halide monomer by subjecting the polymer to a dielectric high frequency heating in the presence of water and an added salt that is inert to the vinyl halide plymerisation system. The polymer may be a homo or copolymer in which the residual monomer is absorbed during the polymsn. The amt. of monomer is usually not >30,000 ppm of the polymer. The salts which may be added include those of Na, K, Pb, Ba or Zn having inorganic acid ions such as halide, carbonate and nitrile, and ammonium cpds. e.g. ammonium carbonate.
|
