Refractory brick has protuberances and matching hollows in two rows on opposite halves of the brick, on the same surface. Two such layers of bricks can be used to line a furnace, with the protrusions in one layer mating with the hollows in the other and vice versa. The same protuberances and hollows may be formed on both opposing major surfaces when several layers of bricks are required. The bricks are used for lining Martin furnaces, electric furnaces and converters, esp. in regions where excessive wear occurs due to extreme conditions, e.g. tuyeres. They provide improved wear resistance and hence improved furnace yield.
|
