Front discharge hearth with a sill, (esp. for a basalt melting furnace,) includes a float located in the hearth outlet. The float is pref. trough-shaped, open at the top, and made of hard chamotte with an opening through which the molten basalt can rise and reach the hearth outlet. The hearth can pref. be tilted using a knife-edge bearing, and the float is pref. held between two side cheeks provided on the sill. The opening in the float is pref. larger than the outlet channel in the sill. A simple method of retaining slag and other impurities on the surface of the melt in the discharge hearth, as the melt cannot flow directly over the sill but is first compelled to travel up the opening in the float. |
