1,017,579. Moulding machines. PROGRESS PATTERN CO. June 5, 1964, No. 23512/64. Heading B3F. A blow tube unit (Figs. 1-12, not shown) through which sand is blown into a heated corebox comprises inner and outer tube members 39, 44, respectively, with an annular space 46 therebetween. The tubes are attached to a flanged adaptor 56 by which they are secured within bore 23 of the lower plate 22 of the blow plate assembly 20. Ports 60 and 61 through the flange 57 of the adaptor, connect the space 46 with internal channels 30 and 32 in the blowplate assembly to facilitate the passage of coolant. The lower extended end of the blow tube unit is fitted with a resilient cap member 49 which, when the blow-tube is in position in the bore 16 of a core-box 10, forms a seal between the core-box and tube during the sand blowing operation. A number of blow-tubes may be incorporated in the blow-plate assembly. A core smoother assembly is provided, which functions in co-operation with the blow-plate assembly by means of a co-ordinated lateral shuttle action. The smoother assembly smooths and presses the sand areas of the core which extend into the discharge opening 52 of the blow-plate assembly and which remain when the latter is removed.
|
