Basic Fe(III)-sulphate, (I), with a low content of water-insoluble material, has mol. ratio SO4/Fe 1.05-1.45. (I) is prepd. by heating Fe2SO4 with an O2-contg. gas, esp. air, to 150-400 degrees C. H2SO4 is then added, in quantity corresponding to mol. ratio SO4/Fe 1.05-1.45 in basic (I) prod. formed. Addn. of H2SO4 reduces content of water-insoluble material from >20% to 2-10%. H ion generation of low-sulphate (I) is reduced, resulting in a reduced degree of acidity of purified water. Prepn. of (I) finds a use for FeSO4 waste from TiO2 prodn. and H2SO4 pickling.
|
