1478983 Marine steering gear TELEFLEX MORSE Ltd 9 Sept 1974 [11 Sept 1973] 42715/73 Heading B7V [Also in Division F2] A marine steering gear unit or head 1 comprises a housing 7, 8, a cable wheel 2 mounted within the housing, a shaft 16 with a pinion 15 on it which makes driving engagement at teeth 14 of the cable wheel and a one-piece body 19 which serves as a bearing suport 17, 17 for the the shaft. The one-piece body also serves as a shroud and is fashioned so that when the unit is orientated with its housing lowermost the shroud can be mounted to the underside of a support surface or dashboard 28 to secure the unit. Fig. 9 shows a rudder indicator 64 which pivots as the steering wheel is rotated to show the degree of turn on the rudder through window cowl 67. Fig. 14 shows a marine craft steering system employing a steering head 1A and a cable drive box 1B both utilizing a unit 1. |
