Particles are made by crushing a sintered hard metal block. The block is first heated to ca. 1100 degrees C and then quenched to ca. -70 degrees C. The material for the block is made by melting and sintering an alloy of 92 wt.% tungsten carbide, 2 wt.% titanium and tantalum carbide; and 6 wt.% cobalt, all in powder form. Particles are bonded to a strip of tool steel by heating one edge of the strip to approx. 600 degrees C; melting hard solder and pouring over the edge while the particles are sprinkled onto the edge.
|
