1479412 Apparatus for making monocrystalline products D A PETROV and A T TUMANOV 2 Sept 1975 36024/75 Heading B1S An apparatus for making monocrystalline products, e.g. turbine blades, comprises as shown in Fig. a ceramic mould 1 for holding material with a seed pocket 10 in the bottom, the ceramic mould 1 being surrounded by a heating element 2 and positioned in a vacuum chamber 4, and a cooler 3 under the mould movable in a vertical direction on rod 6 and having a flat face and an axial hole for accommodating a cooling unit for the seed 9. The cooling unit is movable vertically relative to the cooler and seed pocket and in the form of a tube 14 embracing the seed pocket 10 and provided with an internal partition 15 which divides the tube 14 into upper and lower compartments, the lower compartments containing refrigerant. The tube 14 and partition 15 are made of metal whose thermal conductivity creates a large temperature gradient along the length of the seed 9 for the initiation of the growth of a single crystal. |
