The waterinsoluble solvent may be an optionally halogenated alkane of at least 10 carbon atoms, and is preferably a substance which is a functional component of the final latex, such as a plasticizer or a stabilizer. When the monomer is vinyl chloride. Alternatively the water-insoluble solvent may be a monomer which is copolymerizable with the main monomer, provided that it satisfies the solubility restriction, suitable compounds being C 15 or more alkyl vinyl ethers, esters of formula CH 2 =CHOOCR wherein R is at least C 15 alkyl, and (meth) acrylates of at least C 15 alkanols. |
