Gauging tyre dia - by comparing peripheral and angular speeds

In a tread removing appts. used prior to retreading, the dia. of the tyre is monitored during treat removal by comparing the signals of a device indicating the rotational velocity of the tyre, and one indicating the peripheral velocity of the tyre. The compared signals are displayed to enable the operator to manipulate the tread removing device accordingly. Pref. photoelectrically operated devices monitor the speed of the tyre mounting shaft and the speed of the periphery, the pulses being sent to pulse counter and comparer for ultimate display. A radially even reduction in tyre is obtd.
