1534745 Silencers for compressors BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 9 Dec 1976 [11 Dec 1975] 51492/76 Heading F1B A silencer on the intake side of a compressor 1, e.g. for an exhaust driven turbo-charger, comprises a ring-shaped chamber 7 with annular sound damping elements 4 therein which may be disc shaped (as shown), conical, Fig. 2 (not shown) or curved, and which form therebetween flow passages 9 for guiding air into a convergent manifold leading to the compressor, each element merging into a curved guiding member 10, the total outlet cross-sections of all the flow passages being approximately equal to the average flow cross-section of the manifold. Passages 9 and end passages 11 of approximately half the width of passages 9 are surrounded by filter elements 3. Elements 4, the upstream ends 12 of which are rounded to improve inlet flow are supported by tie bars 5, the distance between them being maintained by spacers 6. |
