A tilting or swinging window has a fitting (1) to retain the locking handle or part of its mechanism as in the main patent, designed so that by adding a packing plate (6) it can be used with various designs of locking handles. The fitting has an L-shaped part with a return flange at one end for the securing screws (2) and an overhang (4) at the other end to retain the locking handle (5). The packing plate has clearance holes for the screws at its extremities, and between them a pair of locating pips which fit into blind holes in the underside of the return flange so that they are locked together when the screws are inserted.
