A very large capacity press developing force of up to 75,000 tons for large alloy components has a frame (1) mounted on feet (2) and consisting of three vertical blocks (3) as seen in side elevation. Seen in front elevation, each block consists of two calipers (4), each made up of a stack of plates (5), and having a C shape with upper and lower jaws (22) gripping between them upper (6) and lower (7) blocks. All the stacks have their C shaped portions pulled towards each other by horizontal tie bars (9) top and bottom, passing through clamping bars (8) along each side. The lower block (12) carrying the lower matrix rests on the frame consisting of blocks (7), and the upper matrix (17) is carried by traverse (16) raised and lowered by cylinders (13) at the top, under the upper blocks (6).
