[Also in Division C2] Foods, animal feeds, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and tobacco are flavoured by incorporating therein a compound selected from 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-buten-4, 1-olide or 2-hydroxy-4 methyl-4 carboxy-2-buten-4, 1-olide or 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-4-ethyl-2- buten-4, 1-olide or 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-4- ethyl-4-carboxy-2-buten-4, 1-olide, if desired together with other flavourings. The above 4-carboxy compounds form the preceding olide on heating. Examples relate to the preparation of caramel and maple flavours and to imparting a maple flavour to a tobacco blend. |
