1439567 Polyolefin derivatives MOBIL OIL CORP 11 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 10738/74 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] Polyalkenyl succinimides prepared by reacting a polymer of a straight chain 1-olefin containing at least 10 carbon atoms with maleic anhydride and reacting the resulting polyalkenyl succinic anhydride with an alkylene polyamine, may be used as detergent additives in lubricating oil and fuel compositions. The olefin preferably contains 10 to 30 carbon atoms, and may be polymerized in the presence of di-t-butyl peroxide, aluminium chloride, borontrifluoride and complexes thereof, and anionic and cationic polymerization initiators. In example (3) 1-decene is polymerized in the presence of aluminium chloride and the product reacted with maleic anhydride and tetraethylene pentamine. |
