1499288 Process for the dealkylation of tertiary alkyl-substituted phenols BAYER AG 2 Dec 1976 [5 Dec 1975] 50302/76 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of m-cresol and/or p-cresol from mono and/or di-tert-alkylm- and/or p-cresol by means of dealkylation wherein the dealkylation is carried out at a temperature no greater than 230‹ C. and the feed product to be dealkylated, together with less than 0À1% by wt. of H 2 SO 4 or the equivalent amount of a sulphonic acid, based on the weight of the feed product, are fed continuously into a reactor vessel, a cresol concentration of 50 to 90% by wt. of the reaction mixture being maintained in the reaction mixture, and wherein the reaction products are withdrawn continuously from the reactor vessel while small amounts of the reaction mixture are withdrawn intermittently or continuously from the reaction vessel.
