Off-shore structure incorporates an infra-structure, a superstructure, intermediate elements for connecting the two and a permanent or demountable system for connecting the intermediate elements to the infra-structure. The infra-structure is (partly) submerged and rests on, or is anchored to, the bottom. The superstructure is buoyant enough, either by its own construction or by the addn. of buoyant elements, to be brought over the submerged part of the infra-structure, by self-propulsion or towing. Its draught is such as to allow such positioning. The superstructure carries mechanism for moving the intermediate connecting elements vertically upwards or downwards. Heavy lifting equipment, reinforcement of structures, and the carrying out of large construction works at sea are avoided and fire resistance is improved. The superstructure can put to sea at any time for repair, maintenance or removal to another site. Installation in deeper water, for an infra-structure of given height, is possible and surface stresses are reduced.
|
