An installation for generating steam at moderate temp. and pressure, by evaporating water in an exchange of heat with steam at high temp. and pressure, has a cylindrical housing for the circulation of the water. The housing is vertical and encloses circulating tubes for the steam, separators for residual water in the steam generated and a water recycling circuit. The steam tubes consist of at least one series of coils wound round a vertical axis, in parallel. They are arranged between the inner wall of the housing and a coaxial inner cylinder. Each coil has an independent feed and drain, and two series of coils are fitted one above the other. The axes of the coils of the upper series are offset to those of the lower series by an angle equal to half that between the axes of the lower series of coils. The outer diameters of the coaxial cylinder and of the steam coils is small enough for them to be lowered through a manhole in the bottom of the housing. The height of the coaxial cylinder is such that it extends from the bottom ends of the lower coils to a point above the top ends of the upper coils. The exchanger can be rapidly commissioned is easily dismantled and can continue working after one circuit has been damaged, or at a considerably reduced load if the feed water supply is restricted. The device generates steam at 12 bar, 190 degrees C by exchanging heat with steam at 53 bars 270 degrees C from a light water reactor.
|
