The demountable handle to head connection is for use on gardening tools to joins e.g. a round section timber handle (2)to e.g. a space blade and has a toothed gripping mechanism. The connection uses a conical sleeve (5) on the tool head receiving a cruciform handle end (2). The auto-gripping effect may be contrived by shaping local areas of the sleeve or by a cranked bar insert (7). The sleeve may be shaped by cutting rectangular side-hangings flaps which project into the sleeve. The hinge aligns normally to the long sleeve axis and locates nearer the hinge opening relative to the free edge of the flap. The bar insert (7) may have an obtuse inverted 'V' form elevation with one end (7a) returned squarely upward and the other (7B) bevelled.
