The comminuting device for woody material, particularly for vine shoots and branches, has a container (1) made from perforated sheet or in grid form, inside which are rapidly rotating cutters (3) mounted on a spindle across the container. The latter can be drum shaped or rectangular. The cutters can be rigid or swing on the ends of arms. To assist the cutting action, there are projection on the inside of the container. The material to be cut can be fed into the tap, or the container may be designed to be drawn along the ground, the material passing horizontally onto the cutters. One design has paddle weels feeding the material horizontally when drawn along the ground.
