1507170 Processing spent nuclear fuel GES FUER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH 20 Oct 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 42931/75 Heading G6R A mixture of an organophosphorus acid ester and a hydrocarbon which has been used for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel is purified by contact with a 0À1 to 1À0 M aqueous hydrazine hydrate solution at a temperature between 20‹ and 75‹ C. The ester is preferably tributyl phosphate, but trioctyl phosphate and trihexyl phosphate are also referred to. The diluent may be a paraffin, e.g. kerosene, or a naphthalene. The two liquids may be contacted by countercurrent flow, the aqueous hydrazine solution containing the impurities then being treated with formic acid or subjected electrolysis as described in Specification 1,505,157. Following purification according to the invention, the organic phase may be treated with lead tetraacetate or solid lead dioxide mixed with silica gel to effect further decontamination and used again for reprocessing nuclear fuel.
|
