The device for securing a first element to a non-rotatably held second element e.g. for a screw connection of two electrodes for an electric furnace has a clamp arranged to swivel between first and second positions. The first element has an axis of symmetry about which the clamp swivels to rotate the first element. The elements are secured by rotation of the first element about its axis. The clamp clamps the first element when it contacts the second element. Each position of the clamp is sensed by a sensor. A power clamp actuator applies the clamp for the first element in the first position and releases the clamp in the second position in response to signals from the sensor. A power drive causes the clamp to swivel at least once from the first to the second position when the clamp has been applied.
