<p>The repair of ingot moulds involves the formation of two rows of threaded holes in the exterior wall of the mould, each row being formed on opposite sides of a crack or fissure in the mould wall and effectively coinciding with holes formed in a thick plate. Anchoring devices are screw fitted into the threaded holes, the lengths of the anchoring devices being such that their exterior parts or heads project from the surface of the mould and are located in the holes in the plate which is applied against the outer surface of the mould, the holes in the plate being large enough hot only to accommodate the heads but also form a residual cavity. Each cavity is then filled with a metallic material which solidifies to join the plate and the upper part or head of each anchoring device. The repair is quick and relatively simple enabling the mould life to be substantially increased. The repair is also relatively low in cost and its quality is such that it can be used for low capacity ingots with increased repair life.</p> |
