1523936 Coated wire GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 6 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 32794/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A wire, e.g. of Cu, Fe or Al, is coated with an aqueous composition (C) which is then cured, and is then optionally overcoated with nylon, where (C) comprises a mixture of a water-soluble polyester (P) and a watersoluble orthoamic acid diamine (O). By wt., the ratio (P)/(O) may be from 0.1 to 10, and (C) may have 25-40% solids content. The coating is heat-curable. Also present may be water-soluble phenolformaldehyde, epoxy, and/or aminoplast resins. (O) may be the reaction product of an aromatic diamine (A) and aromatic dianhydride (B), e.g. in mole ratio (A)/(B) of (m)/(m-1) where m is 2-7, and may be as described in Specification 1515862; a volatile N-containing base may be added to render the reaction-product soluble. Polyester (P) may comprise the reaction-product of trimellitic anhydride and/ or acid, and/or (tere- and/or iso-) phthalic acid, and optionally an aliphatic dibasic acid, and neopentyl, propylene, or diethylene glycol, butylene-1, 3-glycol, glycerine, and/or trishydroxyethylisocyanurate, and may be (Ex. 22) a polyesterimide. Composition (C) may also include an organometallic accelerator, e.g. Ti chelate(s), and a flow-control agent, e.g. a fluorocarbon, carboxy-propyl-terminated dimethyl siloxane, nonylphenoxy poly-(ethylenoxy) ethanol, or a (cresylic acid)/phenol/ n-butanol blend. |
