[Also in Division A4] A bag 1 for the sterile storage of suture and ligature material or surgical instruments-is made from a foil of plastic such as polypropylene by bending the bottom 2 and welding the side edges for a third of the length to form side walls 3, the walls at their free top being thickened to form heavier strips 4 so that the walls fall down to form flaps 5 and allow access. The devices are sterilized by placing the bag in an autoclave or in some other manner and when access is required the bottom of the bag is grasped and when placed bottom downwards the flaps open. The bag 1 may be placed in a sealed outer bay formed from two aluminium foils 11 having an inner layer of polythene or polypropylene and an outer layer of paper and united by welding 12 along the edges. A moistening agent may be placed in the package.
