A synthetic plastics sealing member 11 (see also Fig. 2, not shown), for a dry cell is provided with inner and outer flanges 13 and 14 and a skirt part 15 of the flange 14 extends between the metal jacket 4 and the edge of the zinc cup 1 into contact with the paper sheath 5, whilst the upper part 16 thereof is bent inwardly to embrace the outer periphery of the terminal cap 7 and is itself gripped by the inturned end of the jacket 4 so as to provide a tight seal. The lower part 18 of the inner flange 13 engages an asphalt sealing block 9, whilst the upper part 19 of flange 13 engages between the terminal cap 7 and the carbon rod 3. A second plastics sealing member 20 (see also Fig. 3, not shown), grips a terminal plate 6 whilst itself being gripped by the inturned end of the metal jacket 4 to seal the lower part of the cell. |
