1530428 Microbiological testing MCDONNELL DOUGLAS CORP 13 April 1977 [3 May 1976] 15374/77 Heading C6F A broth medium for the detection of Klebsiella such as Klebsiella pneumoniae or Enterobacter in urine samples using automated optical detection apparatus, consists essentially of carbon, nitrogen and vitamin source materials, a mixture of chemical inhibitors which will inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli while simultaneously promoting the growth of Klebsiella or Enterobacter, and an indicator to indicate the presence of Klebsiella or Enterobacter, at a pH of about 8À0. The medium is exemplified by the following constituents: cellobiose, inositol, gelatin hydrolysate, yeast extract and D-biotin, 3-(α-acetonylbenzyl)-4- hydroxycoumarin and 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazone ofα-ketoglutaric acid (E. coli inhibitors), a mixture of sodium desoxycholate and the sodium salt of ricinoleic acid (indicator of Klebsiella and Enterobacter), and Brilliant Green.
