A pulse generator (2) is used for generating sampling pulses for the stroboscopic electronic sampling of periodically repeated signals. The sampling pulse period differs from the signal period by a small predetermined time interval so that a single sample is taken from each period of the repeated signal, the sampling times being slightly offset with respect to one another referred to the beginning of the signal period. To generate the sampling pulses, the generator (2) contains a comparator (1), to the two inputs of which exponential sawtooth voltages with different time constants are applied; with each detection of equality of the two exponential sawtooth voltages, the comparator (1) triggers the generation of a sampling pulse. The exponential sawtooth voltages are generated with the aid of RC circuits (7, 8; 10, 11). <IMAGE>
