A composite thermically insulating material has 2 flexible impervious walls separated by cross-pieces. One of these walls is made reflecting. The cross-pieces are of low conductivity material and may be rigid pillars, rigid partitions of inflatable flexible tubes. Some means are provided to ensure there is a tension in the walls in the plane of their surfaces. When the material forms a gas tank this means is an overpressure of the contents. It is possible to have one or more intermediary sheets between the 2 walls. These sheets of low conductivity material are kept apart by the cross-pieces set in zig-zag fashion so that they cannot coincide to span the space between the outer walls. Gives a good thermally insulated, light flexible casing for a gas tank. |
