Internal electrodes are joined together through the base pins and are connected to an HV source. The base is inserted into a conducting vessel which is elastically supported and connected to the HV source. The vessel (13) is filled with metal balls (7) which make contact with the base pins (9), and the base of the tube with its pins may be driven downwards into the collection of balls in the vessel. The vessel is mounted on a spiral spring (17) so that it can move vertically guided by vertical columns.
