The surgical instrument for making an incision in the skin of a patient, forms an incision of a predetermined length and depth for the purpose of checking the length of time during which bleeding takes place. The instrument has a hollow cylindrical body (11) with a flat base (17). The tip (15a) of a cutting blade (15) travels along a slot (19) through the flat base. A groove (17A) at right angles to the slot receives a determined portion of the skin (P) of the patient, and the height of the cutter is fixed so that the tip (15A) cuts only the part of the skin in this slot. The blade is attached to a piston (14) which is forced backwards by a spring (13) inside the body (11) when a collar (27) on the piston is disengaged, so that the cut is made. |
