The brake is for use with a mechanism unwinding material from a coil under constant tension. The coil (1) drives the armature of a motor (2) acting as a brake. A current is delivered to the motor windings dependent on coil rotational speed, extraction speed and extraction force, to generate a predetermined braking torque. The current value necessary can be calculated by an electronic computer.
