A separator comprises a tank (1) having product inlet (10) and water outlet (15) at one side and product outlet (11) and water inlet (12) on the other side. The tank is divided by a longitudinal partition (2) into two compartments (3, 4). The compartments are in communication with each other via a series of transverse water troughs (6) in the upper part of the tank and via a pump (26-28) mounted in the lower part. The compartment (3) on the pressure side of the pump is provided with a plate bottom (7) consisting of overlapping sheets between which are defined slots facing in the direction of the product outlet. Water in the tank (1) is forced up in the compartment (3) and through the slots in plate bottom (7) causing product, e.g. sliced potatoes, on and above the plate bottom to be conveyed towards the product outlet (11) while impurities, e.g. starch grains, are carried away with the water through the troughs (6) to the compartment (4). <IMAGE> |
