Prodn. of intravenous-compatible gamma-globulin - by treating crude gamma-globulin with human albumin and precipitating insolubles

Prodn. of iv-compatible gamma-globulin from a crude gamma-globulin ppte. derived from human blood (e.g. by low-temp. ethanol fractionation) is carried out by insolubilising components with anti-complement activity (ACA) by contacting the crude ppte. in aq. soln. with human albumin (HA) and precipitating the insoluble components. The HA is used in a concn. of 0.3-3 wt. % and the pH of the soln. is 4.0-8.0 npref. 4.4-4.9 or 6.6-7.2). The prod. is practically 100% pure and is completely free of ACA (c.f. GB 1372953). Insoluble components can be pptd. by adding polyethylene glycol (PEG) and centrifuging.
