Multilayered, structured-surface floor and wall coverings - by screen printing ground fabric with different gauge stencils

A paste of synthetic materials is applied to form the wearing surface of a multi-layered, patterned and surface-structured floor or wall covering. The laminate is produced in a continuous single process and the paste is applied in different thicknesses to achieve the high and low relief structure by means of screen printing stencils having different gauges of mesh, in one operation, and gelled normally. The carrier fabric may be ornamented, and for pref. the screens have from 40 to 20 passages per cm. The thickness of the surface layer may vary between 0, 1 and 0.5 mm. The separate operations required in other processes are eliminated. The structured surface can be applied without difficulty to laminates which include a layer of foam, and the absence, of tension during mfr. rules out subsequent shrinkage.
