<p>The isolating switch comprises two fixed contacts (9, 10) mounted on an insulating base in a box, and connecting with cable terminals, preferably through a fuse. The contact ends (9', 10') are arched and bridged by a bridge contact (18) received in an insulating pocket (17) of an arm (16) which is pivoted outside the contacts and actuated by a lever. An insulating wall (13) with ribs (14, 15) abbuting the fixed contacts (9, 10) separates the latter. Actuation of the lever pivots, the arm (16) and the bridge contact (18), causing the further arm of the bridge contact (17) to break from the associated fixed contact (9). The off centre pivot increases the speed of contact break, reducing the possibility of arcing, while the wall (13) prevents arcing across the fixed contacts (9, 10). The nearer arm of the bridge contact (18) maintains contact with the associated fixed contact (10). Holes in the bridge contact (18) and arm (16) provide cooling and ventilation.</p> |
