A centrifugal countercurrent exchanger comprises a rotor having a pair of end walls and concentric bonds positioned within the rotor, a plurality of strips having apertures therein associated with the bonds whereby the selection of appropriate strips the aperture characteristics within the rotor may be adjusted, means for supplying and withdrawing a heavy and a light liquid to the apparatus and removable means for affording access to the apertures. The end wall 34 of the apparatus has a plurality of access points 36 which are threaded to take a plug 38 and sealing gasket 46 behind which is a disc 44 having grooves on the inner side to accommodate the ends of the bonds 42. The access holes are built in alignment with the apertures which have apposed channel members 50 (see Fig. 6) to receive the strips 52. Other strips with different configurations of holes are disclosed (Figs. 8 to 10, not shown) one of which has a medial rib designed to effect rotary or linear droplet dispersion of the liquids between the bonds. In another embodiment, (Figs. 11 and 12, not shown), the access holes are replaced by large radion-shaped plates which expose a greater number of bonds. Imperforate strips and combinations of various types of strips may also be used.</p> |
